BFO Event Marketing Research

Brisbane Fishing Online is currently doing some research to help plan our events moving forward. The Team at Brisbane Fishing Online love hosting these events as we feel it adds a genuine benefit to an already great community. With this being said, in the past few years depsite the success of some events, others have actually been a financial and time burden. In order to ensure we provide the best quality events possible that suit our broad spectrum of members, we ask that you take a small ammount of time and complete the below listed polls.

Please have a look and answer honestly whether you have attended every event ever hosted, or never attended an event at all. Consider, what would keep you coming back? Or what would get you there in the first place. We will be carefully analysing both manifest and latent motivations to ensure we host events that are highly desirable to members and beneficial to Brisbane Fishing Online. With this in mind, rest assured your opinion here does count!

BFO Site Offline - New Server Move Issues

As you may be aware the Brisbane Fishing Online site has recently been offline whilst we were to move our site to a new server. The reason was because our site was producing database queries that were putting too much load on our shared webhosting server environment and so our webhosts temporarily turned our site offline. We quickly responded and got the site ready to upgrade our site to our own server to eliminate these problems, however knowing our luck, the hosts have had trouble moving our site to this new server and that is why our site has been offline this last while.

{xtypo_warning}The issue is unfortunately still not resolved {/xtypo_warning}

The hosts are contacting the server software company as there is an issue with the software (one of the largest server softwares used in the world as there seems to be a bug) that wont let them restore the site on the new server. The hosts (one of the best in Australia) are trying to figure out the problem and when they do will let us know to try once again to move our site to the new server. This new server will have dedicated ram, more diskspace and let us set the server up to how we want, however it is double the cost of our previous hosting.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused everyone, and for us it could not have happened at a worse time as we are trying to get our BRC registrations underway. We have been up without much sleep the last few days to try and sort this but there is just not much we can do. Everyone is doing their best to resolve this issue and get our site to its new home :)

Cheers,
Brisbane Fishing Online

Website 'Suspended' due to server load

As our site continues to grow we are faced with the challenge of keeping up to speed with our hosting needs. However, due to the amount of activity on the site recently we managed to put a significant amount of cpu load on the server and so our webhosting account was temporarily suspended.

{xtypo_alert}We are now looking to upgrade our webhosting to not have these issues again.{/xtypo_alert}

Hopefully this should all happen without any disruption to the site in the next few days, so until then we have tried to limit the load so the games section is offline and possibly may make some other sections as well. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.

Database issues (lost information)

{xtypo_alert}The Brisbane Fishing Online site has had an issue with the database and unfortunately has had to restore a database from approximately 2 days ago. This means that any information that was written to the database in that time has been lost (this includes forum posts, new members etc).{/xtypo_alert}

We are very sorry for this occurrence and have found the reason why this occurred and will make sure the same problem won't happen again. You may want to go through and see which posts are missing from the forum and if they were important we kindly ask you to repost them. Any new users that cannot sign in, means that you will have to reregister.

Once again we are sorry for the inconvenience.

Website Relaunched!

{xtypo_alert} Well after some very long sleepless nights we have now successfully (touch wood) upgraded our site. The new framework has better performance, security and ability to integrate new features. So, even though the site is slightly different in layout, the backend of the site has been totally recreated (including databases and all files - hence the reason for the downtime). {/xtypo_alert}

There is still a fair bit of tweaking and bug fixing to do, but we will work through these over the next week or so. If you do find something that isn't working how it should be, or not in the right place etc please let us know in the forum in the Website Relaunched category.

Thanks

BFO

Our Deepest Apologies

Firstly, to all who received the numerous emails sent after midnight last night to 7am this morning we are deeply sorry and apologise sincerely.

It turns out last night, there was glitch with some of the code that makes up the Brisbane Fishing Online site and resulted in numerous emails being sent to people to re-visit the Brisbane Fishing Online site. This was not done intentionally and feel deeply embarrassed that this occurred.

Again, we would like to confirm that we value dearly all our members and don't want to disrupt your daily lives, and as such try to keep emails sent to an absolute minimum.

To all those that were affected please accept our apology

Regards,
Angus and John

'Fish of the Month' Results

Fish of the MonthThe Fish of the Month competition has been running now for a couple of months and the lucky members Cowfish13 and Mackmauler have come away with some terrific prizes for targeting the selected BFO's Fish of the Month. It is simple to enter and simple to win, you just need to get out there and enjoy our wonderful waterways and catch the fish.

Mackmauler won February's Fish of the Month with a great 6foot 40kg Black Marlin caught off Cape Moreton. He picked up this great Cara Trolling Rod - 1.82m , 30-50lb

The prize for catching the best Mackerel in March was taken out by BFO member Cowfish13. He caught a nice 53cm Queensland School Mackerel just off the southern side of St Helena Island in early March. Cowfish13 won this awesome Daiwa Seahunter Rod - 6 foot, 10kg

For you to be in the running to win the upcoming great prizes check out how to enter the Fish of the Month competition below.

How it is run is that each month there will be a  certain type of fish nominated and the winner is the person to catch the largest fish of that species. You will see the species we have selected for each month on the site and the winners for each month.

To be eligible for the prize, you will need photographic proof taken on the day of the catch showing the whole fish (preferably next to something to gauge scale i a ruler or your hand), as well as a photo of the angler with the fish. You will be able to capture all of this in one photo generally but with some of the larger species you may need to take a couple, one showing the whole fish and one showing the angler with the fish, although in this shot the fish does not have to be shown in full (ie for large fish that are not taken out of the water)

To be eligible for the prize, each entry must be submitted in the correct format with all required information provided (An example is outlined in the forum).  Please submit ONLY entries in the forum category marked entries and use the other forum category to chat about the entries.
