The 2010 Summer Classic fishing competition was successfully run for the first time this weekend! With 40 competitors it was always going to be a tough competition, especially with many of the participants making use of the early registration time and the perfect idyllic early morning conditions. Congratulations must go to all competitors for another fantastic fishing competition.
The morning started well with over half the competitors reporting to Event HQ to receive their competitor number before 5:00am. The conditions were perfect with a glassed out passage and mild morning. As the day went on and the tide turned, the wind decided to pick up and along with the summer heat it became somewhat of a challenge. Credit must be given to those who persisted and I know Baden Phillips would be thankful for doing so, snaring the winning bream close to lunchtime. Kylie Wahry was also rewarded for her efforts taking out yet another BFO prize category, 2nd place Flathead. Kylie and Ian both made the trip down to Spinnaker Sound from Caloundra to sign in and later submit their entries. Their knowledge of the Northern Passage paid off yet again! All other placings were taken out by first timers to any BFO events, Cliff Lugton, Dayle Banks, Joel Puurand and Daniel Brinckman. It was great to see so many new faces do so well and we certainly hope this has wet their appetite for future BFO events!
The prize presentation was held at 4:00pm at the Event HQ at Spinnaker Sound, off Caboolture-Bribie Island Road, Sandstone Point (near Bribie Island). Even though the long day took its toll on a fair few competitors it was good to see those that stayed for the prize presentation and also good to see the new faces that were introduced to and met some of the other fellow BFO community members. In total for the Summer Classic there were for the conditions a respectable 21 flathead and 7 bream weighed-in, plus lots of other species that were outside of the official prize categories. Unfortunately, there were no Mangrove Jacks caught in this year's event although Travis Warren had some closely fought battles with some red devils using livies up one of the passages creeks. Kriso Lubbers and James Wahry also donated several lures each to toothy critters throughout the duration of the competition. Our only advice for these anglers is use something a bit more substantial than 4lb next time your chasing Jacks!

The official results taking the great prizes provided by Anaconda Everton Park were:

A massive thanks and congratulations to all those that participated today in the 2010 Summer Classic fishing competition! It was a fantastic day with many fish caught and some happy, if tired faces at the end.
From a community point of view it was fantastic to see that over half the field of 40 entrants who participated today were first timers to BFO events! This is great to see so many new faces out participating and on behalf of the BFO Community a massive welcome aboard must go out to these new faces! We hope to see you again at our next event the Moreton Bay Classic fishing competition down at Manly which will be held in May 2010.
From an administration point of view we were extremely happy with the smooth running of the day in which both the early morning registrations as well as the final photo submissions were conducted and flowed. Always looking to improve from one event to the next, one thing we may look to change in the future however is the final presentation time as it seemed most people after a very early start and the deteriorating weather as the day wore on were keen to pack it in by lunch time.
A detailed wrap up, reports and the results of the 2010 Summer Classic will be posted here in the next day or so
Regards
