The Brisbane Fishing Online team is made up of experienced and enthusiastic fishing folk that share the same passion for fishing and the outdoors as you do.
Thanks to my dad growing up at the beach (Peregian) I have always been exposed tothe outdoors and fishing. I have grown up largely as a surf fisherman with the occasional trip off shore on a boat when the opportunity arose. One of the highlights of my early fishing life was a 6 day trip out to the Swaines Reef. You know you are spoiled when you get caught saying “don’t worry, this Red Emperor is only around 60cm”!
Due to a common interest in fishing and love of Brisbane, my mate Johnny and I somehow found ourselves toying with the idea of a Brisbane River fishing comp and thus “BFO” was born. Its been a step learning curve since then with lots of interesting adventures. The most appreciated aspect of running the site so far for me has been the way it has diversified my fishing. In my mind there will always be time for a 13 foot rod and an Alvey on the beach, however new and loved experiences include; Lures both hard and soft, kayaks, freshwater, live baiting, offshore and so much more!
So far I have been lucky enough to fish in Australia, South Africa, Scotland, South East Asia and Fiji. Next year I plan to head to the Kimberly, and in the future I am desperate to head to PNG and target Black Bass! I would also love to visit Texas in the USA and check out the huge Kayak Fishing scene there.
Aside from fishing I enjoy most things outdoors, mainly camping and hiking. I also have a strong appreciation for food and wine dating back to my days working in restaurants and kitchens.
I am currently working in the Water Department at Anaconda Everton Park which also gives me a fantastic opportunity to be sorrounded by "toys" all day long.
Looking forward to seeing the future evolution of Brisbane Fishing Online.
Angus's Profile
Johnny spends way too much time behind a computer nowadays and not enough time out enjoying the beautiful Queensland outdoors. Growing up going on family holidays to Mermaid Beach and Moreton Bay it is not hard to figure out how he got his passion for fishing and boating. He has been in boats his whole life starting with a timber sailing dinghy and has been all around the bay in his family's bay cruiser - one of Queensland's first boats. He has fond memories of fishing noosa and the Sunshine Coast with Angus as 12 year old schoolmates and loves nothing more than a fishing weekend at Straddie with mates. He likes beach and estaury fishing and can regularly be found down the Gold Coast wetting a line. Outside of fishing he has a passion for all things design, webdesign, music and rowing (having rowed in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia). He strives to keep making Brisbane Fishing Online the premier fishing community for Queensland.
Some say that he was born with a fishing rod in one hand and a keyboard in the other, and that he has taken over the role of running the website from Angus and John because his brain is 3 times that of a normal human, all we know his that he is called the Webmaster!
Charlie helps out with the graphic design for Brisbane Fishing Online. Not only does he help with the website but with all other print material.
I got into fishing about 2 years ago after i purchased a property and party funds were no where what they used to be, i thought fishing would be good cheap fun, boy was i wrong lol!. At first my kmart combo was fine untill i discovered graphite rods, hard body lures and soft plastics etc! to be honest though in my opinion fishing can be as expensive as you want it to be ( just dont tell the mrs!). I found out about Brisbane Fishing Online (aka BFO) when i decided i should google the net to find out why i wasnt catching any fish and now 2 years later i have made some great friends and learnt heaps about fishing and our local waterways. As for the boring stuff I'm a mechanic by trade ( a lion taimer though if you want your car fixed) but have stopped spining spanners for a job and just get my hands dirty for a hobie more then anything, and have moved onto a sales and marketing position for a large John Deere dealer network. Hobbies are Fishing, anything with an engine involved and music.
If theres one thing i can recommend to new members is to jump in the forum and introduce yourself and then ask away about anything you need to know then put the knowledge into use and get out there, besure to post a report when your back and let us all know how you went wether it be good or bad. That's it from me and hope to see you on the water!

Began fishing seriously around year 3 when I was privileged enough to spend a week in Weipa with relatives targeting fingermark, jew, coral trout and other species. Since then, I have kept at it, and we’ve now got a 5.2m Tinny for exploring the bay and close offshore reefs and a kayak for more stealthy missions. Love flicking lures for estuary species such as bream and flathead, casting the banks of western rivers for murray cod and yellowbelly, and get out into the bay targeting snapper, tuna, mackerel and squid when ever I get a chance.
Got introduced to this site by a mate about 3 years ago (back when it was still brisbaneriverclassic.com) and have been spending too much time on here since. Play the guitar in my free time, as well as rugby and cricket, and am looking to seek a career in mechanical and aerospace engineering.
45 year old, white Australian male. Have had a boat of my own for about 4 years. Prior to that it was mates/family or hire one. Been fishing fresh and salt water since early childhood.Favourite type of fishing is when it can be combined with friends or family camping alongside a western river somewhere. Love to soak a bait and have a chat and laugh, but prefer fishing solo when doing it seriously. Was a lure tragic 15 years ago but essentially made them second fiddle to bait about 10 years ago when having a family encroached on fishing time. BFO has slowly brought back the urge since joining up in 2006.
Outside fishing I’m a close follower of Rugby League supporting the (Balmain) Tigers in the NRL since around 1984. Have been in business for myself since 1996 as an accountant/tax agent, but I’m currently finishing that up and joining forces with a couple of others in a completely different field.

Been fishing since the age of 5 and seriously since I was 10. My fishing gear collection has grown from a humble alvey combo to now include over 20 rods and reels and own well over 300 Harbody lures and many more soft plastics in the goal of having no style of fishing uncovered. I fish at least once a week from either the family’s boat, from my ocean kayak 13 or land based depending on the conditions and the species I want to target. Earlier this year I was privileged to get a job in one of Brisbane’s finest fishing stores in my spare time, while being a full time civil engineering student. I have tried most styles of fishing but my top four at the moment would have to be inshore plastic work, pelagic spinning, squidding/eging and estuary luring work.
My first memory of fishing was with my old man and my brother in the Bris River down at the Yeronga stretch. Only until recently, I'd enjoyed fishing as was just a good way to get out and kill time every once in a while.
It was only when I discovered BFO a couple of years ago while trying to research for better fishing spots in Brisbane that I really got into fishing. I'd never really tried hardbodies or plastics before until I got to reading more and more on BFO. Also previously I'd never really considered conservation, stocking or the impacts on the environment that I had when going out fishing. All the info and opinions of BFO from every user teaches me more and more with time.
I now refer to myself as a professional amateur fisherman I think I'm still at the learning stages of a lot of fishing styles and techniques and am always looking to learn more.
With the purchase of Angus's old profish, I've begun to explore the realms of fishing on water a bit more. Previously I was stuck to wherever my car could take me (had to be a sealed road) and wherever my little legs would take me. Generally you'll find me fishing the salt, but that's because the fresh is that much further away from where I live in the inner south.
If I could win lotto..... I'd spend my time fishing, partying (all things included within partying that is not family friendly ;P), driving awesome cars...and fishing.
Outside of fishing I'm a paid nerd for a global company, in love with my car and an allround always positive guy. If you ever see me out and about rockin my fro or driving spiritedly, say G'day. I'm always up for a chat with other insane fishos
James hasn't filled in his bio yet. Tsk Tsk
G'day. Nickname in fishing circles is Feral, Andrew is my given name. I answer to both, and a few other expletives when SWMBO uses them!
I dont know how long I have been fishing, I have seen a picture of myself at about 2 years old with a whiting I caught on a hand line, so at least that long!
I grew up in a a family with a mad keen fisherman as a father, he owned a string of boats when I was a kid, and Moreton bay was my backyard. However the style of fishing back then did not really grab me all that much, particulary if things were quite, soaking bait on the drift is pretty boring for a teenager! So when I left home and town, I did not fish much at all until I found myself in Barcaldine about 10 years later when a mate introduced me to fresh water fishing. Was not a great deal more interesting, handlines from the bank, but I liked the peace and quite.
When I cam back to brisbane about 20 years ago, I started fishing the salt again and was dismayed by the lack of fish in areas they were plentiful when I was a kid. Basically it was hardly worth wetting a line with 100k of Brisbane.
Then my father paid for a father son fishing weekend for himself, myself and my boys at Hinze Dam. The boys loved it, the fish were plentiful (and sustainable, being stocked), and that was the entry for my path back in to fishing. Bass fishing with bait is a pretty slow process unless you can get live shrimp, so I then digressed in to plastics quite successfully, then I started fishing with Ferg who introduced me to hard body lures. Have not used plastics or bait hardly at all since then.
I have developed a passion for casting lures, and fresh water fishing. After my horror at how depleted moreton ba has become, I made the decision to practice sustainable fishing. Most of my fishing is now in stocked waters. I am a member of two fish stocking associations, One which presominately stocks my local waterways and dams, and another which stocks Barra a bity further north.. I am also a member of two fishing clubs, one fresh water, one salt water. Through these associations and clubs my kids and I have helped stock 100's of thousands of fingerlings and breeding stock, breeds including Mary Cod, Saratoga, Bass, Yellow Belly and Barra.
My goal is to see Jacks become a more widely stocked in fresh water impoundments. My dream is for the scientists to crack the breeding cycle of threadfin salmon, so we can introduce them in to the dams of South East Queensland as a viable large target trophy fish to compliment the bass. (Mary cod are just to hard to breed, and not agressive enough to really be a viable attraction for the general public)
Over the last 2 years before the onset of the depression, I had a little spare cash, so I had a two year plan to fish as many fresh water dams as I could in a two year period. I fished a total of 30 dams and weirs from Goondiwindi to Awoonga to Clarrie Hall.
I have recently bought a yak to compliment nmy electric dam boat, and I am enjoying the experience, although I must admit I enjoy the paddling the yak more than fishing from it at this stage.
